It was a May afternoon 6 years ago. I was sitting on a cold metal table when the doctor shared my test results. It wasn't exactly earth-shattering but I left the hospital knowing I had pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, and was overweight. A more difficult thing to deal with when your personal life is also falling apart, which in my case it was.
There was one thing about that day that struck me as odd.The doctor spent zero time on food or detailed nutrition advice. There was the general suggestion of cutting out sugar and fried foods. I realized later that it wasn't exactly her fault. A majority of medical schools fail to cover the bare minimum hours required for nutrition learning. We expect a lot from our doctors when they are really equipped to treat the symptoms and not the root cause of diseases or their prevention.
I wondered: Can many of the chronic diseases, including mine, be prevented, managed or even reversed using just food? Fast forward six months. After following a carefully studied food plan and exercise regimen in consultation with experts and nutritionists, and without taking any of the prescribed drugs, I stopped by to get my tests done again. The tests were normal. The diseases seemed reversed as if they had never been there at all. I am grateful that they continue to remain absent to this day. This incident triggered me to jump and share this insight with people.
Through a successful non-profit nutrition initiative and appearances on local and regional TV shows, I started helping people by encouraging them to check out common sense based but well researched food practices, and hacks to get the most out of food. But I was looking for something. Something that could benefit far more people.
The "aha!" hid in plain sight. Most protein or nutrition bars are overloaded with artificial stuff, chemicals and frankly, taste like crap. Even the so-called natural and "clean" bars are stuffed with sugar, sodium and sweeteners that can be toxic. There has to be a better way! And thus, an inspiration was born.
After almost 75 different trials, I was able to develop a nutrition bar with the breakthrough combination of highest amount of protein and fiber for the lowest amount of sodium, sugar and low net carbs per gm, using ONLY real food & natural ingredients. No Gluten, No GMO, No sugar alcohols, No artificial junk. And they taste amazing. And this goes to the essence of what I am trying to do.
Customers deserve more; more than what most so-called "healthy" or "nutritional" snacks offer. Just because you are eating something from a wrapper doesn't mean you have to compromise.
